The Moat · Active vs Passive

What Most Couriers Won't Show You.

Every South OC competitor markets "cold-chain transport." What that means in practice is gel packs in a cooler. Here is what "active" actually means at Apex.

Industry Standard · Passive Cooling

What You Usually Get

  • Pre-frozen gel packs that warm steadily across the route
  • No active temperature monitoring — cooler is opaque
  • No record of temperature on arrival at the lab
  • Silent excursion: courier doesn't know, you don't know
  • No proof if specimen is rejected for temperature integrity
  • Liability sits with the originating clinic, not the courier
Apex Standard · Active Refrigeration

What You Actually Need

  • Powered Accucold unit holding 36–46°F at ±1°F stability
  • NIST-traceable digital sensor logging every 60 seconds
  • Immutable temperature log delivered with every specimen
  • Instant SMS alert on any excursion outside the band
  • Audit-defensible record if lab disputes a result
  • Apex carries the liability — signed BAA prior to engagement
Inside a Single Dispatch

Six Steps. Six Logged Events.

Every specimen Apex moves generates a six-event digital record. Every event is timestamped to the second, temperature-verified, and sealed with SHA-256 before the audit log is committed. Below is what happens between pickup and delivery.

Step 01

STAT Request Received

Dispatch acknowledged within 47 seconds. Operator alerted. Vehicle pre-cooled to band.

Frequently Asked

Procurement · Compliance · Operations.

The questions hospital procurement, lab directors, and TPA partners ask most often. Direct answers, no fluff.

36°F to 46°F (approximately 0.5°C to 8°C) at ±1°F stability under load. This range is industry-standard for whole blood, serum, plasma, and most specimen types requiring refrigerated transport. For specimens requiring frozen transport, a separate consultation is required.

Yes. The Accucold digital sensor is NIST-traceable. Calibration certificates are available on request from procurement or audit personnel. Recalibration intervals follow manufacturer specification and are logged in the Apex compliance vault.

The Active Pulse engine triggers an SMS alert to dispatch and the receiving lab within 60 seconds of any reading outside the 36–46°F band. A second alert routes to Chris Isner directly. The full excursion event is logged in the immutable audit record delivered with the specimen.

Yes. The Accucold runs on the EcoFlow RIVER 2 Pro LiFePO4 battery station, independent of vehicle ignition. The battery maintains the unit at full operating temperature for 8+ hours on a single charge. There is no power-cycling and no thermal cycling regardless of traffic or vehicle state.

Yes — pre-engagement. Apex will not begin recurring service for any covered entity (hospital, clinic, occupational health, or healthcare group) without an executed BAA. STAT one-off requests from existing partners can be accommodated under master agreement terms.

A signed PDF for each dispatch, available in the Client Vault (Phase 2, Q3 2026). Each record includes: UTC timestamps, GPS waypoints, full temperature log, operator identity, POD signature (SVG vector), and a SHA-256 hash sealing the record. The hash makes the document tamper-evident.

STAT dispatch is initiated within 30 minutes anywhere in South Orange County, 24/7/365. Every STAT dispatch is confirmed by SMS at acceptance.
